The increased use of Public Cloud services is changing the technologies in demand, with rising interest in FAT clients, virtual clients, and MS Teams telephony. Due to the growing number of cyberattacks, the deployment of advanced security features such as SOC is increasing. Public Cloud services provide businesses with greater transparency and flexibility but remain indispensable alongside traditional Private Cloud services. While smaller providers can challenge larger providers with pure Public Cloud environments, larger customer environments still require hybrid approaches for maximum flexibility.

Depending on the type of service, either Public Cloud or Private Cloud can be significantly more cost-effective. However, no significant cost difference can be determined across all services. For certain services, uniform market prices have not yet been established. Depending on the chosen provider, the overall costs for IT services in companies still vary significantly.

For companies, the cost difference for the entire IT services, depending on the provider, can be as much as 300% for identical services. This difference is somewhat lower in the Public Cloud (240%). Due to the still large price differences, a professional evaluation of the appropriate provider is definitely worthwhile. Even though the cost range is somewhat lower in the Public Cloud, the differences in overall costs between Private and Public Cloud services are not significant.

Metagon's market price analysis for "Managed IT Services" and "Infrastructure as a Service" is based on representative price data from Swiss IT sourcing providers. In this year's benchmark, the comparisons of IT costs against the Metagon Benchmark 2022 have been expanded to include "Telephony" and "IT Security." For the surveyed Public Cloud services, Swiss providers manage the entire Public Cloud services for the client.

The prices are based on the principle that a company in the SME segment with 150 to 600 employees outsources large parts of its IT infrastructure and IT services for 5 years to a provider for operation. The provider delivers all the necessary services to the client. The evaluated services are standardized, precisely specified, and thus comparable.
