Challenge

In 2016, the French insurance broker Verlingue acquired the Zurich-based insurance broker Advantis and expanded in 2017 by taking a stake in the S&P Group (S&P), which specialises in risk management and employee benefits. Two years later, the acquisition of the insurance broker Meex followed. Advantis and Meex had previously used different broker platforms from S&P. To ensure a unified working method, Verlingue aimed to establish a common business application for all Swiss subsidiaries. Metagon was tasked with evaluating a unified broker solution and the appropriate service provider.

Solution

In the first phase, the functionalities of the deployed broker applications, their gaps, and the availability of broker solutions with suitable system architecture were analysed. Consideration was given to how these solutions could address future market challenges, particularly in digitalisation and automation. Various options were presented for the broker applications, which were compared based on functionality, risks, costs, and development potential. The next step was the selection of an optimal broker software. After shortlisting four providers, a Request for Proposal (RFP) was created, detailing the current state and the requirements and objectives the broker solution needed to meet. The providers were invited to submit proposals. After carefully reviewing the offers, the providers presented their broker solutions based on predefined processes in a workshop. Metagon then created a comprehensive recommendation and presented it to Verlingue as the decision-making basis.

Results

The three merged companies successfully and timely transitioned to a unified broker solution. In parallel, the infrastructures previously managed by three different service providers were consolidated into a private cloud operated by a Swiss provider. Even before the standardisation of the infrastructures, the joint communication platform M365 was implemented. The IT projects managed by Metagon played a decisive role in the successful integration of the merged companies, significantly contributing to the establishment and strengthening of the Verlingue brand in Switzerland.
